Temp Jobs on the Rise

What is a temp job?

Temporary employment refers to an arrangement where an individual is contracted to work for a certain period of time.

A temporary employment situation can be advantageous for both the employee as well as the employer.

What are some of the advantages?

1. Opportunity for an employer to have a “trial” run with with highly skilled temporary workers.  It also gives the employee a chance to see if the job meets their expectations. Temporary employees can be available when needed and let go without notice.

2. Provides more potential for flexible hours for the employee.

3. More often than not, the hiring process for a temporary employee moves very quickly as the employer needs someone to start right away, usually to fill a void or help on a special project. This is beneficial for the individual who needs work immediately.

4. Temporary employees are cost effective for companies.  While employers may pay a higher hourly rate, they do not provide most benefits to temp employees such as medical/dental, vacation and sick pay, and retirement.

5. Most temporary employees are highly motivated to make a good impression in hopes of receiving a full-time offer.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. temporary services jobs rose by 30,800 in April 2013.  On a year-over-year basis, temp jobs were up 184,200 in April.

Using a Recruiter in Your Job Search

What is a recruiter?

A recruiter, also referred to as a “headhunter”, is contracted by a company to fill a position and are compensated only if they place a candidate in that position.  Recruiters also help candidates with their resumes and coach them through the interview process.

What are the benefits to working with a recruiter for your job search?

1. Discrete Job Search.  Often times people will be looking for a new job while currently working at a company. Posting resumes on-line can be a risky move if you don’t want your employer to know that you’re actively looking for another position.  A recruiter provides a level of confidentiality to your job search and always uses discretion when working with clients.

2. Saves Time.  When you work with a highly qualified recruiting agency, such as Full Cycle Recruiting, you’ll likely spend less time applying and interviewing for jobs that aren’t what you are really looking for.  A recruiter can help you target your search to find a position that truly matches your career goals.

3. Access to More Jobs.  Using a recruiter can be beneficial by broadening the amount of positions that are available to you. Quite often job positions are not posted publicly and only recruiters have access to the information.  Recruiters have deep knowledge about the positions they are filling and they can help assess your skills and determine if you are a right fit for a career or role you may not have considered previously.

4. Better Salary and Benefits. A recruiter will often negotiate on your behalf when the process gets to the offer stage.  Recruiters will often represent companies that offer higher-paying jobs or companies that have searched for months on their own for highly qualified candidates. Having someone in your corner throughout all of the different stages in your job search will only be beneficial to you.

5,  Access to More Information. When you find a job opening on your own it is very rare that important information such as salary details are included. This information is usually only shared if you were to get to the offer stages.  However, if you work with a recruiter, they will have all of the job details, including salary information and workplace details and you are better equipped to decide if the position is in line with your expectations and needs.

Why Use a Recruiting Agency?

Why use a recruiting agency?  Can’t we just advertise the position and find candidates ourselves?

These are common questions that arise when companies are looking to fill positions and are faced with the option of using a recruiting agency or filling the position on their own.

Here are just a few of the benefits of using a recruiting agency to keep in mind….

1. Save time. Time is valuable.  By using a recruiting agency, like Full Cycle Recruiting, you will spend significantly less time screening resumes and interviewing candidates. Posting ads on your own and responding to the large volume of responses takes a lot of time.  Working with a recruiting agency, you are assured that the candidates that are sent to you have the best skill sets for the specific job position you are looking to fill.

2. Save money. Posting ads can be quite expensive.  After spending the money on the ads, companies then spend more money in human resources to sort through all of the resumes received to find the most qualified candidates.  When you hire an agency such as Full Cycle Recruiting, we already have a pool of highly qualified, pre-screened candidates that will be a great fit for the specific job position.

3. Passive talent. Recruiting agencies are often connected to the best passive talent in the market.  Those individuals who are already employed and are successful in their current roles are usually the best candidates to seek out when filling a position.  These individuals are not actively looking for job postings and do not have their resumes posted in any public forums.
